Airport - Essaouira
We meet you in the airport and departure to the beautiful coastal city of Essaouira. On our way we will stop, as it is the land of Argan. This is an opportunity to visit a cooperative of women who make Argan oil, the liquid gold of Morocco. The oil is famous for its culinary, cosmetic and medicinal properties. And also for the fun goats that climb their trees. We will stop to see them and we can take some pictures.
Essaouira is also known as the "City of the Wind". It attracts surfers from all over the world. In June it hosts the international reputed annual Gnawa music Festival. The city now has a bohemian and maritime atmosphere. Many civilizations passed through Essaouira, predominating the product of the Portuguese occupation architecture. Its characteristic blue doors and white walls of fishing village, make it considered the jewel of the sea of Morocco. You can explore the city, the Skala Fortress and see the Thuya wood carved by artisans. Take a walk in the alleys of the medina and the port between his iconic gulls overflying blue fishing boats.
Essaouira - Sidi kaouki - Agadir
About 20 km south of Essaouira, there is the flirtatious Sidi Kaouki, a windy fishing village. It is now a picturesque and bohemian enclave of long wild and desert beaches of fine sand delivered to the Atlantic. If you have never ridden a dromedary, as in Essaouira, you can walk along the beach in one of them. In a corner of the beach, the Marabou of Sidi Kaouki is erected, a spiritual place where an annual festival is celebrated in honor of this “saint”. After, we can have a drink in one of the cafés. Restaurants and hostels are all arranged as a long row that runs through the only street in the town. It is loved specially by surfers and watersports enthusiasts which requires wind.
From there we will continue on secondary roads crossing the Argan fields until we reach Agadir. This Berber city is one of the best seaside resort to enjoy Moroccan and international cuisine. We will visit the old Kasbah on a hill 7 km northwest of the city, with good views of sealine and port. We can visit a store of products made with figs, and buy all kinds of souvenirs in various bazaars.
Agadir - Tiznit - Sidi Ifni
In the morning we leave Agadir and continue south to Tiznit, meeting place between sea and desert. Tiznit is in the beautiful region of Souss, where you can breathe the serenity between argan trees, olive trees and palm trees..
We will visit the Kasbah of Tiznit in which artisans work with silver, an activity for what the city is known throughout Morocco.
We will continue our route through beaches of paradisiac profiles such as Legzira beach or Mirleft to Sidi Ifni. This is an old Spanish colony that seems to stand still in time, there we will visit the medina.
Sidi Ifni - Guelmim - Tantan
From Sidi Ifni we will cross Guelmim, the gate of Western Sahara, famous for its weekly dromedary markets. This day is also to enjoy the beaches of the Atlantic, as we travel to some beautiful beaches such as Playa Blanca o Tantan.
Tantan - Tafraout
After Tantan, we started traveling north towards Tafraout, a small town located outside main tourist routes. It is located in a valley full of pink granite rocks, famous for its colors. It is in this valley that the Belgian artist Jean Verame made, in 1985, a work of colossal dimensions, painting several rocky blocks of blue and pink, whose particularity is worth visiting. In spring the spectacle of almond trees that bloom is also a reason to travel there. Crafts of the area are also very characteristic.
Tafraout - Tata - Foum Zguid
We will leave behind the almond and argan landscape that has accompanied us so far. And that is as, after Ighrem to Tata, landscape will become typical of southern Morocco: desert mountains where the strata draw impossible shapes and narrow valleys bordered by steep walls punctuated sporadically small oasis. Although the road is fast, we will stop to enjoy and photograph the particular landscape. We will stop on the road in Foum Zguid, the last city before the desert, which is a strategic center for the armed forces
Foum Zguid - Iriki desert (Chegaga dunes)
The route from Foum Zguid to Mhamid is another of the most typical routes in Morocco for having been part of the route of several Paris-Dakars of its African stage, although it was done in the opposite direction.
We will arrive to the Iriki desert and we can enjoy the beauty of the dunes of Chegaga. Although they are not as spectacular as those of Merzouga, are ideal for those with less time but want to travel to the desert. There we will have a welcome mint tea and take advantage of what is left in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset in the desert. Arriving at the camp with a walk with dromedaries is an option that we recommend.
Chegaga desert - Mhamid - Zagora
From Chegaga we will approach to Mhamid, a town located 100 kilometers south of Zagora. It was an ancient caravan starting point between Morocco and Africa. Then we complete the tour towards Zagora, crossing several oases.
The new city of Zagora dates from times of French protectorate, as it was one of its administrative centers. However, the oasis was long inhabited, because the Saadi expedition to Timbuktu dates back to 1591. The famous sign “Timbuktu 52 days” in the center of the city is still standing. Zagora is dominated by Jbel Zagora and wide palm groves around it.
Zagora - Marrakech
We leave the desert sand and crossing the Draa Valley, the third largest oasis in the whole country, we start the route back to Marrakech. The Draa Valley, runs along the water channel of the High Atlas Mountains, sometimes emerges triumphantly in oases full of palm trees and Berber villages.
After this we will begin the way back to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas by Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass, the highest road pass in North Africa, at 2260 meters high. Atlas is a great mountain range that offers extraordinary mountainous landscapes dotted with small berber villages. halfway we will visit the mythical fortified city, or Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. It also has a World Heritage Site status declared by UNESCO.
